Application
All interested zone 6 track and field athletes will need to complete this form IN ADDITION TO registering for the meet. If you do not complete this form by Sunday, May 12th at 3pm you will not be considered for the team.
At the games an athlete can compete in up to three events for which they qualify plus one relay OR in the pentathlon plus one relay.
One 4 x 100 and one 4 x 400 relay team for each gender will be chosen by the coaches at the Summer Games from among the athletes on the Zone 6 team present at the Games and in a condition to run the relay. |

How the team is selected:
The Zone 6 team for the Summer Games is chosen by a the selection committee is composed of coaches or representatives from all the clubs and schools of athletes being considered for selection. Athletes who are registered as independents can also have a representative at this meeting.
Initial Selection:
In the first go round the Zone 6 selection committee chooses 24 athletes (12 females and 12 males) subject to the following constraints:
*These are suggestive guidelines, the committee is given power to deviate from above if they feel the need. The competitiveness of the athlete's result may also be taken under consideration.
Please note:
Wild Card Round
Athletes who do not make the team on the first round MAY be selected as wild cards to fill vacancies that are available in various events when the teams from other zones are known.
Athletes in this category are placed in a pool of athletes from other zones who have not made their zone team on the first round and those athletes with the best performance in an event will be added to their Zone team if vacancies in an event(s) become available. When the choice comes down to comparing athletes from two different events, a points system, similar to the VIAA awards system based on performance, will be used. Athletes in this category will probably be notified within a week or so after the last trials in the province have been completed and team lists submitted to the provincial organizer (around June 10).
Substitution Pool
Athletes who have not made the team after the above procedure is completed, MAY be selected as substitute members to fill team vacancies due to illness, injury or other reasons.
Athletes in this category could be added to the Zone 6 team at any time up to the Wednesday before the start of the Summer Games if a place should become available, although the probability is low that this will occur.
It is highly unlikely that athletes who did not achieve a placing of 5th or higher in at least one event at the trials will be considered for either the wild card or the substitute pool.

- First place finishers in more than one event are considered and chosen first.
- Athletes who were first in one event and second in one or more events are added next.
- Athletes who were first in only one event and not second in any event are added.
- Athletes who did not place first in any event but who were second in more than one event are added.
- Athletes who are not yet on the team but who are second in one event are compared and those who were considered the most competitive are added to the team up to the limit of 18 for each gender. The others are placed in the wild card pool.
- All remaining athletes are placed in the wild card pool.

- If possible the empty places in the events list are filled (up to 3 in the 100m and 200m and up to 2 in the other events) with athletes with third or higher place finishes already on the team.
